Newsman: President Donald Trump will meet King Charles in a state visit to the United Kingdom. U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday handed over the president an invitation letter from the king and praised Trump for “changing the conversation to bring about the possibility” of a peace deal between Kyiv and Moscow.
The announced trip will be Trump’s second state visit to the U.K. He was hosted by Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace in 2019.
This is really special, this has never happened before,” Starmer said after Trump read the letter. “This is unprecedented. And I think that just symbolizes the strength of the relationship between us. So this is a very special letter. I think the last state visit was a tremendous success. His Majesty the King wants to make this even better than that. So this is truly historic, an unprecedented second state visit.”
“What I haven’t got yet is your answer,” Starmer said to laughs.
“The answer is yes,” Trump said. “On behalf of our wonderful first lady, Melania and myself, the answer is yes. And we look forward to being there and honoring the King.”
“We’ll have to take a look,” Trump said. “We’re gonna have a good discussion today.”
The two leader spoke to the press in the Oval Office ahead of bilateral talks, the second this week between Trump and a key European leader as the president attempts to bring about an end to the war in Ukraine, while at times freezing the continent out in the process.
On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron met Trump at the White House.
