Newsman: police say a 51-year-old woman was shot and killed, allegedly by her boyfriend, who also wounded a neighbor in Queens Monday morning.
Police say the suspect, 55-year-old Pedro Cintron, shot his girlfriend; a civilian employee with the NYPD, in the head.She was identified as 51-year-old Migdalia Ortega.
Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell and other top NYPD officials went to the hospital to meet her family.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that this began as a domestic incident between the 51-year-old female and a male in the third floor apartment,” said NYP Deputy Chief Julie Morrill, Commanding Officer Detective Bureau Queens. “During the dispute, the 48-year-old second floor neighbor went to check on the third floor occupants. She was then shot and fled back to her apartment. The male suspect followed her and continued shooting.”
A 48-year-old woman, believed to be the first victim’s neighbor, was shot in the abdomen and shoulder after police say she attempted to intervene.
That woman survived but was in critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital.
The woman who died was an 11-year veteran, most recently working for the information technology bureau based at police headquarters.
Police also has released photos of the suspect, described as a 55-year-old man who fled the scene.
A manhunt is underway after the two women were shot around 8:15 a.m. in a third-floor residence on Fresh Pond Road in Ridgewood.
There has been no arrest made, but detectives know the identity of and are currently seeking the suspect.
