Newsman: The Congress of Bangladeshi American urged to the United Nations Secretary General for a full scale investigation of recent incident in Bangladesh. In a letter supported and signed by more than three hundred members of the community said, following the fall of the government on August ‘5th, a brutal episode of murder and violence has taken place, impacting the general population, various wings of the country’s law enforcement departments. More than 450 police stations were looted and set ablaze. Hundreds of thousands of supporters of the immediate past government including teachers, journalists, writers, cultural activists, official and justices were subjected to fatal beating. Their families were tortured; homes and offices were vandalized and torched. These individuals were accused and persecuted by the ‘student mob gang,’ the letter said.
The Congress of Bangladeshi American wrote the letter requesting the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to direct his Human rights commission to conduct a thorough investigation into the death caused by “police, student mob and infiltrated groups such as BNP-Jammat and their student fronts Chatra dal and Islamic chatra shibir as well as outside terrorists” starting from mid- July.
The letter dated on August 5th, 2024 referred former home advisor of the interim government Brigadier general (rtd) Shakhawat hossain’s statement that he is very concerned of the fact of use of brandishing lethal weapons like AK 47 rifles (7.62 calibers) by civilian masquerading as student and the most casualties were caused by these individuals rather than the police as police don’t have access to such weapons and there have been reports that these weapons being discovered in civilian vehicles and video evidence shows individuals carrying these guns alongside law enforcement agencies father the event of August 5th , the fall of the Sheikh Hasina Government. Additionally Brigadier general (rtd) Shakhawat hossain was promptly transferred to a less significant ministry within four days.
The Congress of Bangladeshi American also mentioned that Muhammad Yunus’s interim government has failed to address the lawlessness across the country and the persecution of members of the Awami league, its supporters , Hindus, Christians, Buddhists must need to be end immediately.
