“Bangladesh Day Parade:” A display showed the strength of a culture

Newsman: Thousands of expatriate Bangladeshi American joined the Bangladesh day pare in queens this Sunday, May the 17th2026. The parade once again displayed the solidarity and strength of ‘Bangladesh, ‘the country was liberated in 1971 through a bloody bath of 3 million martyrs and the sacrifices of more than two hundred thousand girls and women who were raped by the then Pakistani Army actively involved in killing mission against People Bangladesh and committed genocide.

Parade celebrated the very culture and tradition of the secular Bengali society existed since hundreds of years. Hundreds of participants rallied with the pride; National Flag, banners and various symbols and arts of cultural heritage were displayed on floats. Presence of local American mainstream Political leaders and renowned artists and singers from Bangladesh the parade amplified the voice of Bangladeshi Americans and the highlighted their very existence in this multi-cultural immigrant society, though the New York City Mayor Johran Mamdani was absent. Hundreds of Bangladeshi American Police officers and the Bangladeshi origin members of NY fire department, NYC department of correction, US postal service, NYPD traffic, dazzled the parade and audiences of all ages through the parade route.

Members of local Bangladeshi American cultural organization and participants performed various traditional performances on the rout street including dances and songs. Participation of celebrities from Bangladesh on colorful,decorated floats sparked the event more.

Congresswomen Grace Meng, Congressman Tom Swayze, state senator Jessica Ganzalez,  state assemblyman Catalina cruez ,city councilman Shekhor Krishnan was among the guests participants in the parade. More than hundred and twenty Bangladeshi American social organization took part according to the chairman of the event Democratic Party’s  District leader Attorney Moin chowdhury.

Former President and the trusty board chairman of the Bangladesh Soceity’s M A Aziz and the former member of Bangladesh parliament MM shaheen were grand marshals of the parade.

The first symbolic Bangladesh day Parade was in 1987 organized by Anisuzzaman Khiokon, the then the director of the first Bengali television program ‘Ruposhi Bangla.’ In 1998 the Bangladesh students association led by Mizanur Rahman Bishwas organized the Bangladesh day parade first time in colorful display and floats. The Ambassador of Bangladesh in the United States, Ambassador Shehabuddin Ahmed was the chief guest and grand marshal of the parade, which was held in Astoria, Queens starting from 21st street and Queens Borough Bridge that ended at the rainy park in Astoria. The Parade was also organized in 1999 again Bangladesh students association. The president of the Bangladesh students association (2006) Azharul Islam Liton also confirmed that the Bangladesh day Parade was also organized in the year 2006 under his leadership. The Bangladesh society of New York organized the parade in the year 2000 as the first time by Bangladesh society of New York.
