A person was struck and killed by a train in Queens

Newsman: A person was struck and killed by an M train at an Elmhurst subway station, according to authorities. The operator of a Manhattan-bound M train felt an impact while entering the Grand Avenue-Newtown subway station and stopped. A motorman climbed down to the track bed and found an injured person trapped beneath the lead car. The incident happened at around noon on Thursday.

The FDNY received a 911 call at 12:03 p.m. and dispatched units to the scene. A rescue train responded to the scene and safely removed approximately 60 passengers from the M train, and then power was shut down to allow rescue crews to operate. The FDNY and NYPD Emergency Service Units removed the civilian from the tracks. EMS pronounced the person dead on the scene at 12:28. The gender of the deceased victim has not been determined, an NYPD spokesman said on Thursday afternoon.

The investigation remains ongoing, NYPD spokesman said. The identity and gender of the deceased has not been determined, and added that no criminality was suspected.

Service along the E, F, M and R Lines was suspended for around an hour while the emergency teams removed the body from the track bed. Service was restored and running with delays in both directions, according to an MTA spokesperson.
