Pam Bondi out as attorney general

Newsman: President Donald Trump has ousted Pam Bondi as attorney general. President Trump  announced Bondi’s exit in a post Thursday on Truth Social, saying she would “be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future.”

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, Trump’s former criminal defense lawyer, will lead the department in an acting capacity, the president said. Blanche has been unusually visible in his role as Bondi’s deputy, embodying a Trumpian pugilism that has endeared him to the president — and raising eyebrows when he suggested the administration was at “war” with the courts.

In a Thursday post to X, Bondi said she will spend the next month preparing Blanche, who she called “amazing,” before starting a new role in the private sector to “continue fighting for President Trump and this Administration.”

“Leading President Trump’s historic and highly successful efforts to make America safer and more secure has been the honor of a lifetime, and easily the most consequential first year of the Department of Justice in American history,” Bondi said.

The departure comes at a point of maximum turmoil for the Justice Department, which has seen an exodus of veteran prosecutors, the collapse of trust from federal judges, a buckling under the weight of Trump’s mass deportation campaign, and intense blowback over its botched rollout of the Epstein files.
