Newsman: The former president Donald Trump survived a shooting Saturday evening at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania that killed one attendee and seriously injured two others. The former president, with blood visible on his face, was rushed off the stage in Butler County after multiple shots rang out around 6:15 p.m. Saturday, prompting screams from the crowd.
“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear,” Trump said on Truth Social, adding that he “immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.” Trump said in a statement on Truth Social after his released from the hospital.
“It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead,” He said on his social media.
The former president Donald Trump and his campaign said he is recovering at a hospital nearby.
The gunman opened fire on a sweltering campaign rally in Pennsylvania, and was killed by Secret Service agents, officials said. One spectator was killed and two others were “critically injured,” the Secret Service said.
The former president was speaking at a rally in Butler Pennsylvania. Trump was in the first minutes of his campaign speech when the shots rang out. Trump put his hand to his right ear as Secret Service agents rushed toward Trump and called for him to get on the ground. A shooter fired multiple shots from an “elevated position” outside of the Trump rally before United States Secret Service personnel “neutralized” the shooter, the law enforcement agency said.
A statement from the Secret Service said that “at approximately 6:15 p.m., a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue.”
Secret Service personnel “neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased,” the statement continued.
Trump left the Butler, Pennsylvania, area just after 11 p.m., according to Gov. Josh Shapiro. Donald Trump spent the night in his bed minister’s golf house in New Jerdey
The FBI is leading the investigation.
Leaders from across the political spectrum quickly condemned political violence in the wake of the attack.
“There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it,” President Joe Biden said in a statement. He later spoke on camera briefly: “Look, there’s no place in America for this kind of violence. It’s sick.”
The White House said Saturday night that Biden had spoken with Trump and been briefed by law enforcement.
