Newsman: Thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol Hill protesting electoral college vote to certification of Joe Biden’s election victory. Journalists have been evacuated along with senators and congressmen from the Capitol, after a bomb threat. Protesters vandalized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s suite of offices, flipping tables and rummaging through desks. One man was photographed reclining with his feet on a desk in Pelosi’s office while other men in “Make America Great Again” hats horsed around with desk phones and streamed the incident. Trump’s supporters entered to the Senate chamber and occupied the dais. After protesters stormed the Capitol, leading to a lockdown and conflict with police, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a 6 p.m. curfew, barring civilians other than essential workers from being out in public places this evening. “The F.B.I. has been deployed to assist our U.S. Capitol Police partners, as requested, in protection of federal property and public safety,” the F.B.I. statement said. A woman who was shot inside the Capitol building after it was overrun by a pro-Trump mob has died. Nearly 50 people wounded.
In a video message late afternoon, President Trump asked his supporter to “Go home Peacefully” and said,” we had an election that was stolen from us .It was a landslide election everyone knows it , especially other side. you have to go home now, we have to have peace. we have to we have to respect people and the law and order. we don’t want anybody hurt. there is never been a time like this, such a thing happen, the way they can take a way from all of us; from me, from you, from our country. This is a fraudulent election. But we can’t play into their hand of this people. We have to have peace. so go home, we love you. Go Home with peace.”
President-elect Joe Biden called Wednesday for the restoration of “just simple decency” as a mob incited by his predecessor stormed the U.S. Capitol and delayed Congress from certifying the results of November’s election. “At this hour our democracy is under unprecedented assault unlike anything we’ve seen in modern times,” Biden said, adding that what unfolded was, “an assault on the rule of law like few times we have ever seen it.” He said “The scenes of chaos at the capitol do not reflect a true America, do not represent who we are.”
“I call on this mob to pull back and allow democracy to go forward,” Biden said. “At their best the words of a president can inspire, at their worst they can incite.”
Biden had planned to deliver a speech focused on how to revive an economy and provide financial relief for small business owners reeling from the coronavirus pandemic from his native Delaware. But shortly before he was to begin speaking, demonstrators broke into the capital, reaching as far as the House floor. The building was locked down and police with guns drawn moved in as Vice President Mike Pence and lawmakers were evacuated to secure locations. National Guard troops were deployed and a citywide curfew called for shortly after dusk, as rioters continued to occupy the capital for hours.
Wednesday, shortly after Mr. Trump gave a speech once again without evidence claiming to have won a second term, thousands of supporters of President Trump stormed barricades and confronted police outside the Capitol. A small group of protesters managed to get inside the Capitol building around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Sessions of the House and Senate were suddenly recessed as the building was placed under lockdown. D.C. police said they arrested 13 people from Tuesday afternoon through 6 p.m. on Wednesday, including three who authorities said were in possession of firearms. Earlier, In a tweet President Trump appeared to attempt rein in a chaotic and spiraling situation at the Capitol, where his supporters clashed with police and breached the building.
Protesters took over the speaker’s office and even entered the senate voting floor where the Electoral College vote was in counting process. One woman was shot according to the police, during the chaos caused by storm of the supporters of President Donald trump. “Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement. They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!” The president tweeted.
After Mr. Trump’s speech, thousands of the president’s supporters descended on Washington, D.C., for the speech, and to protest certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the November 2020 election. Many made their way to the Capitol where they planned to protest throughout the day as members of Congress count electoral votes, a formality that finalizes Biden’s victory.
Shortly after 1 p.m. ET hundreds of pro-Trump protesters pushed through barriers set up along the perimeter of the Capitol, where they tussled with officers in full riot gear, some calling the officers “traitors” for doing their jobs. About 90 minutes later, police said demonstrators got into the building and the doors to the House and Senate were being locked. Shortly after, the House floor was evacuated by police.
An armed standoff was taking place at the House front door as of 3 p.m. ET, and police officers had their guns drawn at someone who is trying to breach it. A Trump supporter was also pictured standing at the Senate dais.
The Senate floor was cleared of rioters as of 3:30 p.m. ET, and an officer told CNN that they have successfully squeezed them away from the Senate wing of the building and towards the Rotunda, and they are removing them out of the East and West doors of the Capitol.
The District of Columbia National Guard has activated 340 members to support the D.C. Metropolitan Police during the pro-Trump demonstrations in response to a request from D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser.
Two senior defense officials say that D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has requested additional National Guard troops and her request is under review. One official said she called for 200 more troops. If approved, they would be added to the 340 already detailed to support D.C. Metropolitan Police for the demonstrations supporting President Trump.
Secret Service and the Federal Protective Service will provide assistance to Capitol Hill Police, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson told News Media.
Ken Cuccinelli, a Department of Homeland Security official, called for the president’s supporters to leave the Capitol building in a tweet Wednesday afternoon.
“For months over the summer we rightly condemned Antifa for storming federal buildings in Portland. If you are entering the Capitol Building against police orders, you must leave. There is a proper venue to resolve grievances. This is not it,” Cuccinelli wrote.
Journalists and senators are moving from the Capitol building to another Senate building via the network of tunnels connecting the various congressional buildings
Authorities first evacuated senators and then said press could follow, taking elevators down from the gallery to avoid protesters that had made it past security into the building.
