Trump talking about running for a third term

Newsman: Donald Trump talking about running for a third term despite the U.S. Constitution prevents

him from running for a third term.

Trump raised the topic at a Black History Month event Thursday.

“Should I run again? You tell me,” Trump told an audience gathered for a White House reception, adding: “There’s your controversy right there.”

The audience cheered and began chanting “four more years” as Trump laughed and said “you’re going to see that tonight… on television.” The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In a speech to Republican governors later on Thursday, Trump said he’s been told he can’t run again, added he’s “not sure” but then said he’ll be spending money he raised during the transition on “friends” because “I can’t spend it on me,” implying he can’t mount another campaign.

The comments come during the same week Trump called himself “the king” in a social media post about rescinding federal authority for New York City’s congestion pricing toll plan.

“CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan, and all of New York, is SAVED,” Trump wrote. “LONG LIVE THE KING!”

The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution states “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”

Trump and his supporters continue to talk about him running again, though.

Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn, introduced a resolution to amend the Constitution so Trump can seek a third term.

Trump supporters were touting that proposal at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington D.C. this week in an effort dubbed the “Third Term Project.”

Steve Bannon, Trump’s former White House adviser and an influential conservative figure, touted the idea of Trump running in 2028 during his CPAC speech.

“The future of MAGA is Donald Trump!,” Bannon said Thursday. “We want Trump in ’28. That’s what they can’t stand. A man like Trump comes along only once or twice in the country’s history. We want Trump!”
