Newsman: A 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged in a shooting outside a New York City high school that left one teenager dead and two others injured, police announced Saturday. The suspect was charged with murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Friday afternoon, Angellyh Yambo, 16, was killed and two other teenagers were wounded in a shooting outside a New York City high school. The victims believe to be students, were leaving South Bronx High School and heading home when gunfire erupted, NYPD Deputy Chief Timothy McCormack said.
“While Angellyh’s loved ones are devasted, we can pray that this arrest brings them some sense of solace,” New York City Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said at a news conference.
“At this point, early in our investigation, it appears that the brazen criminals opened fire during a dispute,” New York Police Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell said at the news conference.
Angellyh Yambo, 16, was killed when shots rang out around 1:40 p.m. Friday near a South Bronx high school. Another 16-year-old girl was shot in the shin, and a 17-year-old boy was hit in his buttocks, Deputy Chief Timothy McCormack of the New York Police Department said at a news conference. The teen was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital about a half-hour later, he said.
A motive in the 1:42 p.m. shooting was not yet known, he said, but the shooter was seen on security video “gesturing to somebody” before opening fire, the deputy chief said.
