Rahul Gandhi concerned of extremist elements in Bangladesh; met US lawmakers, top official including Doland Lu

Newsman: India’s Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi met US lawmakers including several members of the India Caucus during his three-day visit in United States. Gandhi also met with very influential US state department official Donald Lu, assistant secretary of state, bureau of South and Central Asia on Monday September 9.  The US assistant secretary of state Donald Lu is set to visit to India and Bangladesh this month.

While taking to X, India’s India’s Leader of Opposition Gandhi said, “It was a pleasure to meet with a delegation of US lawmakers at the Rayburn House in Washington, DC. We had a meaningful discussion about our shared commitment to building a progressive future and strengthening the Indo-US relations.”

US state department said,  the recent interaction of leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi with its top official Donald Lu in Washington as ‘part of regular diplomatic engagement.’
“The US government meets with members of government and opposition parties, as well as civil society representatives and other stakeholders, as part of our regular diplomatic engagement with our partners,” the US department of state spokesperson said.

Rahul Gandhi, was on a three-day visit to the US, where he engaged with the Indian diaspora, students, and US lawmakers. As part of his engagements He interacted with officials of US House Foreign Affairs Committee.

The times of India quoted n Rahul Gandhi on Bangladesh situation. India’s Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said “We have an old relation with Bangladesh… I think there are concerns in India about extremist elements in Bangladesh and we share some of those concerns…However, I am confident that things will stabilize in Bangladesh and we will be able to have a relationship with the current government or any other government…” according to the Times of India. 

During his address in Dallas, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi discussed unemployment, education, and technology. He pointed out that both India and the West are facing job crises, suggesting India should enhance its own production capabilities.

“India cannot go forward without building a manufacturing base. We’ve handed the entire act of production to the Chinese. India cannot simply run a services-based economy with over a billion people. The real question for the 21st century is: Can the US and India provide a democratic, liberal vision for production and manufacturing? This is not just an economic question; it’s about providing jobs and opportunities to large sections of the population” Rahul Gandhi said. while many countries struggle with unemployment, others like China and Vietnam are not, attributing this to a historical shift in global production. He observed that production moved from the West to South Korea, Japan, and now China, due to the West’s retreat from manufacturing he added.

Gandhi argued that India needs to rethink its approach to manufacturing and align it with democratic principles. Reflecting on his Bharat Jodo Yatra, he mentioned how it reshaped his political views by incorporating the idea of love into politics. He made these remarks during a live interaction with students at the University of Texas in Dallas the Times of India said.

Rahul Gandhi began his trip with meetings at the Rayburn House Office Building, hosted by Congressman Bradley James Sherman. Among the attendees were US Congress members Jonathan Jackson, Ro Khanna, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Barbara Lee, Shri Thanedar, Jesus G “Chuy” Garcia, Ilhan Omar, Hank Johnson, and Jan Schakowsky.
