Newsman: The Unified Command has announced Tuesday that All 67 victims killed in the helicopter and plane collision have been recovered from the Potomac River. Sixty-six of the remains have been positively identified they said.

The Unified Command said its crews are still working to clear wreckage, including large pieces of the jet, from the river.

“Large lifts will continue through Tuesday evening, with unloading expected when environmental and tidal conditions allow on Wednesday,” the Unified Command said. “Operations will then shift to recovering wreckage from the Black Hawk helicopter.”

Crews have recently recovered more pieces of the downed plane, including the right wing, the center fuselage, part of the left wing and the left fuselage, and significant parts of the forward cabin and the cockpit, the National Transportation Safety Board said Tuesday.

The latest information shows the Black Hawk helicopter was recorded at 300 feet high on the air traffic control display at the time of the collision, the NTSB said, noting that the data is rounded to the nearest 100 feet. The helicopter’s limit in that location is 200 feet.

NTSB said it’ll need to recover the helicopter to verify data. Crews plan to remove the Black Hawk from the Potomac River later this week, the NTSB said.

NTSB said its “investigators continue to transcribe the cockpit voice recorders for both aircraft” and that “synchronization work for the Black Hawk flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder is ongoing.”

Newsman: Federal accident investigators on Saturday said the commercial plane involved in Wednesday’s deadly crash in Washington appears to have tried to pull up a second before it collided with a U.S. Army helicopter.

“Sounds of impact were audible about one second later,” National Transportation Safety Board investigator Brice Banning told reporters at a news conference. Banning said the

aircraft’s flight data recorder showed that the plane had started to increase its pitch.

The independent agency also said it had been able to verify based on initial data that the impact occurred as the airplane was flying at roughly 325 feet when a Black Hawk helicopter slammed into it.

Other preliminary data appear to indicate that air traffic controllers at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport were operating with radar scope data showing that the helicopter was flying at an altitude of 200 feet at the time of impact, Banning said. That radar data has “less fidelity,” he said.

“Our team is looking into that,” he said. When asked what would explain the apparent discrepancy between the two reported altitudes, NTSB board member Todd Inman said: “That’s what our job is — is to figure that out.”

The agency wouldn’t say what altitude the helicopter was flying at but the air route it was using should have limited it to no higher than 200 feet.

The data recorder from the Army helicopter has been retrieved, but investigators are in the process of removing some water that seeped into it, said Inman, who added the agency is “confident” they’ll be able to get data from it.

Todd Inman said the helicopter flight was approved to use night vision goggles but could not yet confirm whether the pilots were wearing them. The goggles could have limited their field of view.

Newsman: the American Airlines regional jet and US Army Black Hawk helicopter collided midair Wednesday night .All 67 people on board are presumed dead. There were 64 passengers aboard the American Airlines flight — which was flying from Wichita, Kansas — and three Army soldiers in the Black Hawk helicopter, officials said.

The aircraft went down in the frigid Potomac River, breaking into multiple pieces. There were no survivors.

Among the victims were 14 people who were returning home from a national figure skating development camp in Wichita, according to Doug Zeghibe, the CEO and executive director for the Skating Club of Boston.

“Skating is a tight-knit community where parents and kids come together six or seven days a week to train and work together. Everyone is like family,” Zeghibe said in a statement.

The National Transportation Safety Board will allow first responders do their jobs first, before it starts its investigation into the deadly collision, the board’s chair said on Thursday.

NTSB Chair Jennifer L. Homendy called it an “all hands on deck event.”

She said this is the first day the NTSB has had a full crew on the scene, with about 50 people at the site of the crash as well as other personnel ready to assist at the agency’s headquarters and labs around the country.

But first, “we allow the responders to do their important safety mission, which in this case was search and rescue and recovery,” she said. “We stand back to allow them to do their important safety mission.”

Homendy emphasized that the NTSB will “leave no stone unturned in this investigation” and that it would be a “whole of government effort.” The agency’s chair added that she briefed President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance earlier today.

“We are going to conduct a thorough investigation of this entire tragedy, looking at the facts,” she said.

Homendy said the agency would provide more information as it is uncovered.

Newsman: In one of the most improbable matchups in the sport’s history, Social media star Jake Paul defeated legendary boxer Mike Tyson via unanimous decision.

All three judges ruled the fight in favor of Paul, with scores of 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73, late Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The win improves Paul’s professional record to 11-1 while dropping Tyson to 50-7.

“He’s exactly what I thought, one of the greatest to ever do it,” Paul said after the fight.

Tyson was asked if he was officially done boxing. He said he wasn’t sure.

“I don’t think so,” Tyson said on the broadcast. “Maybe the brother (Logan Paul).”

Paul vs. Tyson revenue has surpassed $17.8 million, almost double the previous $9 million state combat sports gate record set by Canelo Álvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders in 2021, according to event promoter.

Paul, 27, a social media star with more than 27 million Instagram followers and nearly 21 million YouTube subscribers, cruised in the bout.

After a first round that saw Tyson aggressive, his age caught up to him. Tyson appeared slow for most of the fight and barely landed any significant punches. His offensive output dropped considerably from the mid-rounds on. The much younger Paul peppered his opponent with jabs and hooks throughout the bout while taking little damage.

Tyson, 58, is known as one of the best — and most intimidating — boxers ever. He opened his professional career with 19 straight finishes, 12 of which came in the first round. He later knocked out Trevor Berbick at the age of 20 to become the youngest heavyweight champion ever. Tyson reigned over the division from 1987 to 1990, claiming and retaining the WBA, WBC, and IBF belts en route to a 37-0 start.

Paul made his professional debut in 2020. He has wins that include former UFC stars Ben Askren, Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz and Mike Perry. His lone loss is a split decision last year against boxer Tommy Fury, the half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Newsman: Just hours before the start of the Paris Olympics, a coordinated arson attack on the French rail system put Paris into a nightmare for hundreds of thousands of travelers. A series of pre-dawn arson attacks targeted high-speed rail service across France early Friday. Authorities prevented a fourth attack on the Paris-Marseille line. No injuries were reported and No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks. Prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation according to the Authority.

The intense security and an unprecedented level of security operation were evident throughout Paris, aiming to keep any disturbances from interrupting the celebration of sport. Police from around the world are lined up the sidewalks and streets all the way around the Seine River.

The attack has delayed journeys for 800,000 travelers including travelers on international train routes into France from Germany in what the French transport minister described as “coordinated attacks of malicious intent.”

The opening ceremony kicked off as planned with greater security despite the attack.

“We were prepared ahead of Olympics, but we expected to face normal failures… Of course, we are going to fully mobilize our teams now,” SNCF CEO Farandou also has acknowledged to reporters.

French Rail Company SNCF announced on Friday its high-speed train system had been hit by “deliberate arson attacks to damage [its] facilities” causing delays and cancellations which are expected to last all weekend.

Attackers started fires in wire bundles containing multiple fiber-optic cables, Le Monde reported, quoting SNCF CEO Jean-Pierre Farandou. SNCF CEO said hundreds of workers would be needed to manually repair the cables one at a time.

As many as 800,000 passengers were affected by the attacks, SNCF CEO Jean-Pierre Farandou said earlier on Friday. The incident was intent on “paralyzing the network,” Farandou told USA TODAY.

Rail disruptions included Eurostar trains running between Paris and London. Other international train routes into France from Germany were also experiencing delays.

Many train routes will have to be canceled and repairs would last “at least all weekend,” SNCF told Agence France-Presse. The railway service asked passengers to delay trips and stay away from train stations, Le Monde said.

The attacks took place between 1 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. Paris time, the BBC reported. They targeted electrical cables and train signal boxes on three lines of the SNCF, the state-owned railway service. A “large number of trains” were diverted or canceled, SNCF said on X.

The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee said that no American athletes were affected by the train disruptions because they were mostly traveling on buses.

The outgoing Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said the sabotage operation “had been prepared and coordinated to hit the nerve centers” of the French rail network. “It shows [the perpetrators] knew where to attack the system. But I can’t tell you more about the authors and their motivations,” he told reporters at the rail crisis center.

Attal also said “the mobilization was total” to find alternative transport for the people who were stranded and that a “new transport plan” would be ready by Friday afternoon. Disruptions are expected all weekend.

No arrests have made “to [my] knowledge”, said outgoing Prime Minister Attal.

The Paris prosecutor’s organized crime division has opened an investigation into a series of charges including “damage to property likely to affect the fundamental interests of the nation.”

The president of the International Olympics Committee Thomas Bach said he didn’t have “any concerns” following the arson attack. “We have full confidence in the French authorities,” he told reporters at the Olympic Athletes’ village.

First lady Jill Biden arrives in Paris for Olympics as her husband passes the torch

First lady Jill Biden watched on Wednesday night as President Joe Biden told the American people it was time to “pass the torch” on his political career. Then she got on a plane, flying nearly 4,000 miles to Paris, where another torch was being passed.

Jill Biden has arrived in Paris at a monumental time for her husband’s presidency. Her role has rapidly shifted from that of an active and prolific surrogate to a leader racing the clock to the inauguration of a new administration.

The trip, which has been in the works long before the president suspended his reelection campaign, will signal how her role may be remembered at home and on the world stage.

Newsman: The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions once again. The Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 to win Super Bowl LVII.

Kansas City benefited from good fortune winning field goal with 8 seconds left. Led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35, winning Super Bowl 57. Playing in its third Super Bowl in four seasons, K.C. collected its second championship in that span. Stocked with young talent and the league’s best player, a team that’s appeared in five consecutive AFC championship games appears to have extensive staying power. The NFL’s next dynasty may have been born in the desert Sunday night.

The Eagles began the game with an 11-play, 75-yard drive to strike first with a 7-0 lead.

Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes will face off against the NFC’s one-seed the Philadelphia Eagles led by QB Jalen Philadelphia capitalized and scored on a 45-yard pass from Jalen Hurts to AJ Brown to take a 14-7 to open the second quarter.

After a Chiefs punt, linebacker Nick Bolton forced a Hurts fumble and ran the ball back for a 36-yard TD to tie the game at 14.

On the next drive, the Eagles went on a 12-play, 75-yard drive to take a 21-14 lead.

Kansas City made it a three-point game after the first drive of the second half with a six-minute drive capped by an Isiah Pacheco touchdown. https://f0dba34c3da8ad8cb419f69b6a782c1a.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-40/html/container.html A 17-play Eagles drive ended with a field goal after a booth review overruled a second Nick Bolton scoop and score.

The Chiefs took a 28-27 lead on the next drive with a TD from Mahomes to Kadarius Toney early in the fourth quarter.

After a three-and-out by the Eagles, Toney returned a punt 65 yards to the Philly five-yard line before rookie receiver Skyy Moore scored his first TD of his career.

The Chiefs led 35-27 with 9:22 left in the game. https://f0dba34c3da8ad8cb419f69b6a782c1a.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-40/html/container.html Philadelphia only needed eight plays to respond with a TD and tied the game at 35 with a two-point conversion.

Kansas City received the ball with 5:15 left in the game.

In the middle of the drive, Mahomes scrambled 26 yards to keep the drive alive.

The Chiefs ran down the clock to hit the game-winning field goal with eight seconds left on the clock. https://f0dba34c3da8ad8cb419f69b6a782c1a.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-40/html/container.html Mahomes ended the game with 182 passing yards and three touchdowns. Kelce was the Chiefs’ leading receiver with 81 yards and one touchdown.

Mahomes was magnificent, despite aggravating his high ankle sprain late in the first half. He never missed a snap while leading three consecutive second-half touchdown drives after his team trailed 24-14 at intermission. He completed 21 of 27 passes for 182 yards and three scores and also ran for 44 yards, much of that on his bad wheel. Now Mahomes, 27, surpassed Tom Brady as the youngest QB to start three Super Bowls, might just be able to begin setting his sights on some of the GOAT’s other records. But he was hardly the only story in one of Super Sunday’s more remarkable matchups.

Kansas City became the 10th franchise to win the Super Bowl at least three times. The Chiefs have prevailed twice under CEO and co-owner Clark Hunt, whose father, Lamar, founded the AFL in 1960 and was the team’s original owner when the franchise was born as the Dallas Texans. The Chiefs’ first Super Bowl win came under Lamar Hunt following the 1969 season, but it took 50 years before their second.

Newsman: Argentina won the Qatar world cup Sunday beating France. This is their third World Cup win after 36 years. Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties to claim a third World Cup title despite Kylian Mbappé scoring the first hat trick in a final in 56 years. Argentina won its previous World Cup titles in 1978 and 1986. In Qatar, the country backed up its victory from last year’s Copa America, its first major trophy since 1993 .It was an incredible, high emotion and fluctuating fortunees, delivering one of the all-time great finals to cap a wonderful tournament as its two star players delivered command performances on the biggest stage of all.

Argentina went ahead when the recalled Di Maria beat Ousmane Dembele and was tripped for a penalty that Messi slotted in after 23 minutes.

Argentina had dominated the most of the match, leading 2-0 with just about 10 minutes to go, but France burst into life with star forward Kylian Mbappé scoring twice in as many minutes. Both sides traded missed chances and then late goals again in the 30 minutes of extra time before the tension of penalty kicks. Kylian Mbappe single-handedly revived the defending champions. He scored twice in 90 seconds to force extra time.

One of the most dramatic major sporting events in history had the teams tied 3-3 after extra time, with the French ultimately missing twice in the shootout before Gonzalo Montiel converted to seal an emotional victory.

Lionel Messi scored twice in a 3-3 draw with two goals in his record.

Kylian Mbappe grabbed a hat-trick to bring the holders back from 2-0 and 3-2 down in world cup final’s history.

after Messi had knocked in a rebound goal to put Argentina back in front in the 108th, Mbappe tied it up again 10 minutes later.

That would send the game to a penalty shootout, and France would miss two of its first four shots. With Messi, Paulo Dybala and Leandro Paredes all making theirs — Messi slow-rolling his as if to give all those who’ve doubted his greatness a few extra seconds to absorb it — it came to Gonzalo Montiel, whose handball in extra time had given France a last lifeline.

Montiel buried his shot, and Messi broke into a grin that wouldn’t fade for the rest of the night.

“I wanted to close my career with this, it was the one that was missing so I can no longer ask for anything else,” said Messi after winning the champion trophy.

“I was able to get the Copa America and now the World Cup that I had fought so hard for. I’ve got it at the end of my career. But I love football and I want to continue living a few more games being world champion” he added.

Messi, 35, took the glory, securing the trophy that cements his status as perhaps the game’s greatest ever player by sealing a third title for his country.

Messi won the Golden Ball as the best player of the tournament. He scored seven goals — only Mbappe’s eight were more — and also had three assists. He’s the first man to score in the group stage and every game in the knockout round.

“I cannot believe that we have suffered so much in a perfect game. Unbelievable, but this team responds to everything,” Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni said.

“I am proud of the work they did. With the blows we received today. I want to tell people to enjoy, it’s a historic moment for our country.”

“We came back from the brink, that’s what gives us so many regrets,” said France coach Didier Deschamps. “We could have won it in the last minute (of extra time) but it was not meant to be.”

France team looked to have no chance of becoming the first to retain the title since Brazil 60 years ago and barely fired a shot in anger until the 80th minute when Nicolas Otamendi tripped Randal Kolo Muani and Mbappe, previously anonymous, expertly converted the penalty.

A minute later he swept in a brilliant equalising volley after combining cleverly with Marcus Thuram, stunning the massed Argentine fans watching their team concede two quick-fire goals for the third time in the tournament.

Argentina regrouped and created several chances, and regained the lead after a counter-attack when Lautaro Martinez smashed a shot that Hugo Lloris saved. Messi pounce on the rebound with a rare right-footed finish that technology confirmed the ball had crossed the line.

Mbappe hammered a shot against Montiel’s arm to win a penalty in the 117th minute, which he calmly dispatched for an amazing hat-trick and a tournament-leading eighth goal.

Argentina have now won six of their seven World Cup shootouts, including the quarter-final against the Netherlands a week ago when they also blew a 2-0 lead in the same Lusail Stadium.

Newsman: Croatia beats Morocco 2-1 to finish in third place at World Cup. it’s the second time for Croatia that they’ve finished in third place at a World Cup, matching their 1998 performance. Morocco became the neutral’s favorite at this tournament, setting a new position by getting to the semifinal.

Third place games have often been said to be more open, positive affairs due to the relative lack of pressure, and both teams got right to work in this edition. But Croatia matched their in World Cup performance as emerging as winners of a vigorously contested third place. Both teams had solid chances to follow, but just before halftime, Croatia nosed back in front. Again, there was an element of good fortune: Morocco seemed to have ended a Croatian attack.

Croatia was having the better of play, but sent their opportunities too wide.Croatia took a sixth-minute lead with by far their earliest goal of the tournament, using a clever set part routine.

Their best chance was something that never amounted to anything, as Gvardiol went down after contact in the box with Sofyan Amrabat. Referees and VAR have both given penalty kicks for less at this World Cup, but in this one, Abdulrahman Al-Jassim played on much to Croatia’s chagrin.

Almost immediately thereafter, Youssef En-Nesyri had a chance out of nothing, as two Croatian defenders failed to defend a cross from the left. Unfortunately for En-Nesyri, Livaković proved equal to the task, getting a hand out quickly to keep Croatia ahead.

Morocco offered a late push as Croatia started to show some heavy legs, but with essentially the final touch of the match, En-Nesyri sent promising header just inches over the crossbar.

Lovro Majer clipped a free kick in for Ivan Perisic, who was running away from goal. Perisic came up with a critical moment of misdirection, spinning at the last moment to guide his header back from where he came, and Joško Gvardiol was free to hurl himself at the ball, sending a diving header just barely inside Yassine Bounou’s right-hand post.

Morocco was level in not even two full minutes later. Again it was a set piece, but it wasn’t exactly as well-designed as Croatia’s. Achraf Hakimi’s free kick from the right touchline was driven in over the one-man wall, but only as far as Luka Modrić.

The pace on the service meant that Modrić’s attempt to head clear came late, sending the ball looping into the Croatian penalty area. Achraf Dari was first to react, nodding past Dominik Livaković from point-blank range. But just as the Atlas Lions were poised to move forward, Mateo Kovačić stepped up to win the ball back.

Marko Livaja was the beneficiary, and a quick shuffle of feet allowed him to slide the ball over to the left for Mislav Oršić, who shaped to swing the ball towards the back post.

What may have had the look of a potential cross was instead an audacious shot, with the Dinamo Zagreb forward curling a stunner into the upper corner.

Newsman; Argentina finished in first place in Group C to set up a match against Australia in Qatar World Cup as surprise qualifier for the knockout stage. Lionel Messi, at least one more time.will grace the World Cup . His team beats Poland 2-0 Wednesday after second-half goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvarez and advanced to the last 16.

Messi will be relieved after failing to score a penalty for the second straight World Cup. It was awarded after being hit in the face by the flailing hand of Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who made amends by diving to his left to block Messi’s kick.

Mac Allister converted a cross from Nahuel Molina inside the first minute of the second half and Alvarez — selected ahead of Lautaro Martinez — curled the second into the top corner in the 67th minute.

It’s a strong position for Argentina, especially considering the team opened the World Cup with a shocking 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia in one of biggest upsets in the tournament’s history.

Newsman: Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest tennis player ever to take the No. 1 position among the world’s top touring men at the U.S. Open on Sunday at Flushing Meadows,New York . It was Rafael Nadal who, in 2005, was the last men’s teenager to win a grand slam title when he triumphed at the French Open.

Spain’s Alcaraz on Sunday beat Ruud, 23, of Norway, in the U.S. Open final 6-4, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3, a well-matched battle that would have meant either player, ranked third and fifth respectively, took the No. 1 spot.

At 19, the Spaniard is also the only men’s teenager to top the Pepperstone ATP Rankings, with women giving the world much younger tour leaders for decades.

After Alcaraz won a third-set tiebreaker to go up two sets to one, he owned the fourth set, pulling away to 5-3 to serve for the championship. A service ace gave him the win.

The final doubled as a changing of the guard for a men’s sport dominated by Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, both nearing retirement age.

“This is something that I dreamed of since I was a kid,” Alcaraz said. “To be No. 1 in the world. To be champion.”

Before Nadal was ousted in the fourth round by American Frances Tiafoe, the top spot was the elder Spaniard’s for the taking.

Alcaraz beat Tiafoe in a marathon semifinal match, earning his shot at No. 1.

“Today was a special day, evening, for both Carlos and I,” Ruud said after the match. “It’s fun that both finalists will be No. 2 and No. 1 in the world. No. 2 is not too bad.”

Organizers said Sunday that had the tournament set an attendance record of 888,044, many of them repeat visitors, during the three-week event in the New York City borough of Queens.

President Michael J. McNulty III of the U.S. Tennis Association said, “This will be remembered as our most spectacular U.S. Open.”

“We’ve ushered in the next generation of champions,” he said.
