Participants explored the interactive experience by scanning Freedom 250 QR codes placed at designated locations across Dhaka, including specially branded American flag-themed rickshaws and partner locations. By visiting these locations and engaging with the platform, participants earned points to climb the leaderboard, with the top 120 scorers qualifying for the final in-person trivia competition.

The U.S. Embassy Dhaka’s Public Diplomacy team commended the CodersTrust team for its technical expertise, professionalism, and timely delivery of the project. CodersTrust’s developers designed and implemented key features of the platform, including the QR code system, user login functions, and leaderboard.

Mayor Mamdani on Monday, announced over 50 reforms to simplify small business regulations, including removing the city’s additional permits to sell frozen treats like ice cream. “It is with great sadness that I report a third person has died in connection with the Legionnaires’ disease community cluster on the Upper East Side,” New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Alister F. Health officials advised that anyone who has spent time in the affected zip codes 10028, 10075, 10128, including Carnegie Hill and Yorkville, should seek medical attention if they develop flu-like symptoms.

Legionnaires’ disease symptoms can appear up to 14 days after exposure, the NYC Dept. of Health said.

The department said it believes the source of the bacteria has likely been eliminated and that it will continue inspecting every cooling tower that tested positive for the bacteria.

Legionnaires’ disease is a severe form of pneumonia caused by inhaling the Legionella bacteria in small droplets of water mixed in the air or contaminated water accidentally going into the lungs.

The bacteria are found naturally in freshwater, but amounts generally don’t lead to disease. The bacteria typically grow best in warm water and in warm to hot temperatures, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The disease does not generally spread from person to person, but infections can occur if the bacteria get into a building’s water supply, including in shower heads, sink faucets, hot water tanks, heaters, cooling towers and other plumbing systems.

Legionnaires’ disease has increased in prevalence over the last decade, reaching a peak of 2.71 cases per 100,000 in 2018, the CDC said. Cases dropped during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic and then rebounded in 2021.

After recording nearly a dozen shots on target, Spain finally broke through when forward Nico Williams took a cross into the box off his head, sending it back into the empty space in front of his teammate Ferran Torres, who knocked it in for the game’s only goal.

The two were neck-and-neck in both goals and assists at eight and four, respectively, heading into the weekend, but an offensive exhibition between England and France that ended in a 6-4 win for England ultimately proved to be the difference.

The Spain goalkeeper won the Golden Glove as the best goalkeeper at the 2026 World Cup on Sunday, July 19, capping a tournament during which he allowed one goal in eight matches and set records that had stood for decades.

La Roja won a World Cup title, its second in team history, $50 million, and championship rings. It also cleaned up in the individual awards, including the FIFA Young Player Award.

Spain’s World Cup champions head home for a royal welcome and a parade through Madrid

Spain’s World Cupwinning soccer team is set to return home on Monday, where the 26-man squad will be greeted by Spanish royalty and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez before boarding an open-top bus for a parade through central Madrid.

Throngs of fans will greet them as they travel from near Moncloa Palace, the prime minister’s official residence, to Cibeles Square.

A ceremony with the players will then be held at the square, where previous Spanish national teams and their supporters have traditionally gathered to celebrate.

Spain walked off with the trophy at Sunday’s final after defeating now-dethroned champion Argentina 1-0 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It was only the second time — after a 2010 victory in South Africa — that Spain won the title.

The Spanish capital erupted into celebrations after the final whistle, with thousands of supporters pouring into the streets from bars and restaurants, many draped in Spanish flags or wearing the team’s colors.

Crowds packed Madrid’s Puerta de Sol and other major squares — singing, dancing and setting off flares while car horns blared throughout the capital.

Many celebrated Sunday’s victory long into the wee hours of Monday morning.

The World Cup title, combined with the Women’s World Cup won by Spain in 2023, makes the European nation the first to hold both the men’s and women’s titles simultaneously.

President Trump and Republican lawmakers have been looking to crack down on illegal immigration through mass deportation measures in recent months and have recently introduced legislation to curb “birth tourism,” the practice of traveling to another country with the intention of giving birth there, which is considered rare. This Six-figure fees for entry have also been pegged as another measure to deny immigrants of a certain financial status.

The US State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said the administration is evaluating a potential six-figure bond to ensure immigrants are “financially self-sufficient” and “contribute to our society more than they take from it.”

“We are working closely with the Department of Homeland Security to introduce commonsense and effective procedures to enforce U.S. laws, restore the integrity of our immigration system, and protect American public benefits programs from the financial burden of foreigners who arrive with major expensive medical or other needs,” Pigott said in a statement to The Hill.

 “As part of this comprehensive initiative, the Department is exploring the use of a long-standing legal authority under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) to require certain visa applicants — those who are otherwise ineligible for a visa because they are likely become a public charge — to post a bond as a way to demonstrate they have access to the funds needed to support themselves,” he added.

Pigott said if the program was expanded, it would give “applicants who have the resources to pay their own way another option to demonstrate their self-sufficiency and qualify for a U.S. visa.”

The traditional green-card application fee depends on the specific category and whether the applicant is applying from inside or outside the U.S.

The standard filing fee for Form I-485 is $1,440 for those applying within the country, but those who need to apply for a work permit and travel documents incur additional fees unless filed concurrently under specific conditions.

A $325 DS-260 visa application fee is traditionally paid by those applying from outside of the U.S. through the Department of State’s online Consular Electronic Application Center portal.

The payment is followed by a $235 U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services immigrant fee to process their packet and produce their card after the visa is approved.

The Trump administration previously attempted to impose a $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications, but the fee was ultimately struck down by a federal judge who said the administration exceeded its authority and that the fee usurped Congress’s power to set immigration policy and taxes.

H-1B visas allow employers to hire international talent for specialty jobs, particularly in the tech industry. Recipients are typically admitted to the U.S. for three years, but they are not lawful permanent residents, unlike green-card holders.

Since last August, visa holders from Malawi and Zambia have been asked to post a $15,000 bond that would be forfeited if they overstay or apply for another immigration status after arriving, such as asylum, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Fifty other countries in Africa have been asked to comply with the policy, and Trump administration officials said it has helped to ensure that 97 percent of visa holders did not overstay, per the Journal.

Foreign students and journalists will face new limits on how long they can stay in the United States under a Trump administration rule. Roughly 1.2 million foreign students and about 1,500 foreign journalists in the United States will be affected by the new policy.

The new rules impose time limits, stricter oversight and additional federal review requirements for extensions.

International students and exchange visitors will no longer receive open-ended authorization tied to their academic programs. Instead, student and exchange visas will be limited to the length of a participant’s program, with a maximum stay of four years.

Students who need additional time to complete their studies must apply directly to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for an extension. Those requests will be subject to background checks, biometric screening and fraud reviews. Besides, students intend to change or transfer to the other study program will not be able to do that through the university internal process. They have apply directly to the Department of Homeland Security.

The rule also shortens the grace period for F-1 students after graduation or program completion from 60 days to 30 days.

DHS said the changes are designed to eliminate what it calls a “duration of status” loophole that allowed some visa holders to remain in the United States indefinitely without routine federal oversight.

Current visa holders already in the United States under the previous system will automatically transition to the new framework, with their authorized stay capped at four years from the rule’s effective date, according to DHS.

The administration is also imposing new time limits on foreign media visas.

Under the rule, journalists holding I visas will be limited to stays of 240 days. Journalists from China will be limited to 90 days.

Currently, foreign journalists can generally remain in the country for the length of their assignment. Journalists seeking to stay beyond the new limits must apply for a visa renewal and undergo additional vetting.

“This new rule risks providing the government with an avenue to not renew a journalist’s visa in retaliation for coverage it perceives as critical,” Gabe Rottman, vice president of policy at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, said in a statement.

DHS says the new rule strengthens oversight of nonimmigrant visa programs and reduces opportunities for immigration fraud.

 “For nearly half a century, the outdated ‘duration of status’ system has compromised national security and created an environment ripe for immigration fraud,” said DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. “For decades, foreign students have been admitted into the U.S. indefinitely, allowing thousands to abuse our immigration system by perpetually enrolling in courses to avoid having to leave the U.S. By implementing clear, finite limits on these visas, the United States is reclaiming its ability to properly screen, vet, and monitor individuals within our borders. This final rule ensures that foreign students remain focused on their primary purpose: completing their studies and returning home.”

Since 1978, foreign students have been admitted into the U.S. for an unspecified period, enabling thousands to become “forever students” by perpetually enrolling in courses to avoid departure. The final rule ends this exploitation through several major reforms:

The final rule has been published in the Federal Register and is scheduled to take effect 60 days after publication.

The new policy will affect roughly 1.2 million foreign students and about 1,500 foreign journalists in the United States, requiring many to seek federal approval for extensions and placing new limits on how long they can remain in the country, according to the Migration Policy Institute and U.S. State Department.

Trump added in his post that the U.S. military would “completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran — PRAISE BE TO ALLAH!”

Trump made the comments on his Truth Social after senior U.S. officials demanded that Iran make a public statement saying the Strait of Hormuz is open and that ships crossing the vital corridor won’t be attacked any longer.

So far, Tehran has not done so, instead insisting the route remain under its control and that it be allowed to charge ships moving through it, upending decades of precedence considering the strait an international waterway.

There had been multiple days of U.S. airstrikes targeting Iran, as well as Iranian retaliatory fire targeting nations across the Mideast. Those strikes had been sparked by Iran attacking three ships in the strait earlier this week.

The Iran war’s opening moments on Feb. 28 saw an airstrike that killed Khamenei, 86. Iran only buried Khamenei this week in a dayslong funeral ceremony that saw his body taken to cities in both Iran and Iraq.

Trump repeatedly during the war and its uneasy ceasefire has invoked the name of God in Arabic, as well as threatened to destroy Iran’s very civilization. The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a nationwide advocacy group, in the past has criticized Trump’s “deranged mocking of Islam.”

, Iran has insisted its theocracy is unified after the war under the country’s new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

The U.S. officials said Friday that Trump is giving U.S. negotiators limited time to reach a deal with Iran, but, in a sign of the challenges ahead, they underscored that the president had a wide range of options if talks fall apart.

Moments before the U.S. officials spoke, however, Tehran’s diplomat at the United Nations told reporters that any activity in the Strait of Hormuz, including its opening or demining operations, “rests exclusively with Iran.”

Qatari mediators separately traveled to Iran to meet with officials on Friday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said.

Iran has said the strait must now be under its sole control and that vessels should begin to pay fees to Tehran — even though the world for decades has considered it an international waterway. About a fifth of all traded oil and natural gas passed through the strait before the war began.

Iran’s grip on the strait during the conflict led to a global energy crisis, though oil prices have sharply dropped since wartime highs of $120 a barrel.

After the U.S. wrapped up its latest strikes on Thursday, more attacks reportedly hit Iran, leaving questions about who else may be targeting the Islamic Republic. Israel didn’t claim them, meaning the Gulf Arab states may have launched them, likely as a means to deter Iran from attacking them again. Iran on Thursday retaliated for U.S. strikes by targeting Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait and Qatar.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi plans to discuss the strait with his Omani counterpart at a meeting Saturday in Oman, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency said. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told his country’s state broadcaster TRT that he believed “a solution can be reached” this weekend between Iran and Oman, which lie on opposite sides of the narrow waterway.

However, Araghchi on Saturday accused the U.S. of violating the interim deal by ending waivers allowing Iran to sell crude oil on the open market in U.S. dollars. Washington did that in response to the attacks on ships in the strait.

“Reality check: There can only be mutual compliance,” Araghchi wrote on X.

The U.S. continues to urge mariners to travel on a southern route through Oman’s territorial waters to avoid Iranian waters and the commands of its paramilitary Revolutionary Guard. That has angered Tehran and sparked the attacks in the strait.

U.S. insists nuclear deal will require Iran to turn over enriched uranium

The U.S. officials also told journalists that any deal on Iran’s nuclear program would require Tehran to turn over its stockpile of highly enriched uranium. That’s something Iran has repeatedly refused.

If the U.S. does not reach a deal with Iran to turn over its nuclear material, it has military options to ensure that it remains buried underground forever, the officials said. They did not detail those options.

The uranium, enriched to near weapons-grade levels, is believed to be at nuclear sites the U.S. bombed in 2025. Iran long has insisted its nuclear program is peaceful, despite the International Atomic Energy Agency saying the Islamic Republic is the only country in the world to enrich uranium so highly without a weapons program.

The officials also insisted that they would never reach a nuclear deal with Iran if it would not first stop its attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

A 35-year-old man was shot in the head, a 28-year-old man was hit in the shin and a 22-year-old woman was shot in the arm when shots rang out in the court in the back of 70 Lenox Ave. just before 10:30 p.m., authorities said.

All three victims were rushed to the hospital, where the 35-year-old was pronounced dead, officials reported. The 28-year-old and 22-year-old were expected to survive.

Kinu Rochford, 35, was shot and killed during a basketball tournament in Harlem, authorities said on Saturday. Rochford’s former school, Fairleigh Dickinson University, confirmed his role in a social media post.

 “FDU is devastated to hear of the tragic passing of former men’s basketball player Kinu Rochford (‘13),” read the social media post on Saturday. “A standout Knight and leader, Rochford built a legacy in Hackensack.”

Rochford was one of three people shot on the basketball court behind 70 Lenox Ave. in Harlem on Friday just before 10:30 p.m., police reported.

A 28-year-old man who was shot in the shin and a 22-year-old woman who was hit in the arm were also taken to the hospital and expected to survive.

What led up to the shooting remains under investigation. The identity of the man killed was also not immediately made known.

The organizer of the local tournament, known on social media as Kingdome Basketball, acknowledged “the tragic loss of life” during the opening game of the 2026 season.

“Our hearts are with the individual’s family, loved ones, teammates, and everyone affected by this devastating tragedy,” read a social post from Saturday. “The Kingdome Games were founded to unite our community through faith, fellowship, and sportsmanship. We unequivocally condemn all forms of violence and remain steadfast in our commitment to providing a safe and positive environment for our youth and community.”

Rochford was a Brooklyn native who began his college basketball career at the Globe Institute of Technology before transferring to FDU, according to the school’s athletics website. As an FDU Knight, he served as the team’s forward and appeared in 53 games, averaging 14.8 points per game, totaling 96 blocks and securing ten double-doubles.

He was recognized with the FDU George Braun Leadership Award in 2013 for displaying exemplary leadership skills among their peers, officials from the university say.

The arrests were made following an investigation after Bergen County Communications notified NJSP of a bomb threat sent via text message.

Troopers identified the owner of the phone number that sent the message and determined that the individual’s vehicle was at the Meadowlands Sports Complex when the threat was made, police say.

The Jersey City Police Department later located and stopped the vehicle on Bergen Avenue. Police were granted consent to search the vehicle and the residence of Amar Ramkisson for explosive devices; however, none were found.

Police charged Ramkisson with terroristic threats and false public alarm. A second individual, Breanna Rampersad, was arrested and charged with hindering and tampering with evidence.

Ramkisson was lodged in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing. Rampersad was released pending a future court date.

Just before 8 a.m., the Fire Department of New York received a report of bricks falling from the high-rise building currently under construction on East 42nd Street, between 2nd and 3rd avenues. On arrival, fire officials said two columns had buckled on the 21st and 22nd floors, while floors were sagging between the 21st and 26th floors.

David Maggiotto, a spokesperson for the city Department of Buildings, said agency inspectors were called to the scene to investigate reports that a steel beam was compromised on the building’s 21st floor. Maggiotto said the location is an active permitted construction site to convert existing commercial offices into residential units.

Several nearby addresses on 42nd and 43rd streets were evacuated as a precaution, according to the fire department.

There are no injuries reported at this time as operations are ongoing, FDNY said. City officials said emergency personnel were in the area and told residents to use alternate routes with expected traffic delays.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called it an “extremely serious” and “incredibly complex” situation as first responders and city Department of Buildings officials try to secure the area and to shore up the impacts of structural damage.

“The building remains unstable,” Mamdani said in an afternoon news briefing near the scene in Midtown Manhattan. “Since arriving on scene, we have witnessed additional movement in one of the compromised columns.”

Earlier, Mamdani said nearby tall buildings were evacuated. A school with about 400 children was also evacuated, and most of 42nd and 43rd streets in the area had been shut down to pedestrians and vehicles, he said in a morning news briefing.

Inside the building, Mamdani said officials are assessing impacts with the use of drones as they await materials to fix affected floors. If the floor is deemed secure, he said engineers can go in to shore up the building to make it safe.

Metro Loft, the developer of the building, said in a statement it was working closely with the buildings department to understand the full scope of the situation.

In Midtown, dozens of onlookers gawked down the closed-off street as they tried to get a view of the building next to TV cameras staged against police barricades.

Meanwhile, cars poured into congested surrounding streets, trying to make do with closures caused by the evacuation. Building workers sat in the surrounding areas waiting for their next order, while car alarms and police sirens blared in the background.
